Who: Youth currently in grades 8-12
When: June 17-22, 2007
Where: Cairo, Illinois
Why: Cairo is a small impoverished community that is a victim of the deterioration of commerce and river industry. Approximately 33% of the population lives below the poverty line.
What: We will be working with a Kid’s Club, assisting with minor home repairs and partnering with a non-profit called Mission Build who works to create affordable housing for lower income families.
How Much: The total cost per person is $455. A $50 deposit is due on October 11, along with the YouthWorks release form.
Who is “YouthWorks”: YouthWorks is a company whose sole purpose is to provide mission trip opportunities for youth. They work with youth of all denominations and will be the ones making all of the local arrangements for our trip. This is the first time Calvary is using an organization like this to help facilitate our mission trip and we are excited about our partnership with them. The student leaders of this trip, along with input of other youth group members, selected this location based on the diversity of projects available for us to work on and the fact that we will be able to work with MISSION BUILD. Our upperclassmen have a lot of building experience after building the church in Laredo, which is unique to most youth groups looking for a mission trip site, and this opportunity will best utilize their skills.
Questions: Student Leaders are Todd Jorgenson and Emma Stubblefield and the Adult Leader is Janelle Miller.
We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
