WHO'S THE BOSS?
By: Carol Court

Scripture: From the time [Potiphar] put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the LORD blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. ... with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate.

But while Joseph was there in the prison...The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph's care, because the LORD was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did. ~Gen. 39:5-6, 20-23

Mostly, I think about how hard it is to turn my problems over to Christ. I might take things to him in prayer, but it’s not always easy to let go of my worries. Most of the time that’s how it seems.

But then there are times, especially when I’m really busy, that maybe I give too much over to the Lord. I’m frazzled; I have too much on my plate; I feel inadequate to meet my own needs, much less the needs of others. So I pray that God will take some of those burdens off my shoulders. Couldn’t someone else with more time do a better job? Surely another person is better equipped than I.

What I should be praying is not that God will take these burdens from me, but to give me the strength and energy to carry them. Or maybe I could simply ask that he share my burdens. After all, he tells us that his "…yoke is easy and [his] burden is light." -Matthew 11:29-31.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, give me strength and courage to carry my load in this life. Guide me to not be like Potiphar or the Warden, seeking rest while my brothers and sisters are left to do the work you have set before me. In Christ’s Holy Name, Amen.
