News and Opportunities

Most of us have been blessed with loving mothers, but this is not the case for a majority of the children served by Lutheran Social Services. Instead, they are deeply troubled as a result of neglect, abuse or abandonment. Through participation in the seventh annual "Children of Promise" Mother's Day Tea, we can all play a part in providing help, healing and hope to these children. On behalf of the more than 7,000 children adopted through LSS and the 2,800 children cared for each year in LSS treatment centers and foster homes, we invite you to join us for this year's Mother's Day Tea.
Please consider being a hostess for this important benefit; your participation will have a dramatic, positive impact on these children's futures. Here are two ways you can make this effort successful:
- You, your women's group, Sunday School class or congregation can host an actual tea, at which the attendees gather for fellowship, learn how LSS ministers to God's "children of promise" and make a gift to support this ministry as a group or as individuals. Contributions can be matched by including Thrivent Financial for Lutherans in your event.
- As an individual, you can host a "make-believe" tea and ask your friends, relatives, co-workers, members of your congregation and neighbors to reflect upon their mothers' love, and honor her by making a donation to LSS children's ministries.
LSS will provide a hostess packet which contains instructions, donation envelopes and invitations that can be personalized by the hostess. Whether you host a "make-believe" tea or an actual tea, this is YOUR event to help the children. Be as creative as you like and have fun!
Mother's Day is May 11th, so don't delay! Complete an invitation request form today and join us by serving as a hostess to make a difference in the lives of the children who rely on all of us to be partners in service in the name of Jesus Christ.
